Red Tide Masters Swimming, is a thriving, diverse adult swim team based in NYC, is seeking a Head Coach. With a legacy spanning decades, Red Tide supports swimmers of all levels—from adult beginners to national champions, triathletes, and renowned open water swimmers.
We value camaraderie, fitness, and competitive spirit. Practices are held six days a week at John Jay College in Midtown Manhattan: in the morning on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and in the evening on Tuesday and Thursday.
Role Overview — Red Tide USMS Coaching Openings
Red Tide Masters is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaches to join our team. Our swimmers range from ages 18 to 99 and include all ability levels. Coaches help guide adult swimmers in improving technique, fitness, and performance in a supportive, community-driven environment.
Responsibilities include leading practices, collaborating with the coaching and leadership teams, and providing coverage for scheduled workouts, meets, or open water events when needed. Coaches may be assigned between two and three workouts per week, depending on availability and team needs.
Ideal candidates bring a positive coaching presence, strong communication skills, and a genuine interest in helping adults reach their swimming goals.
Coach Responsibilities

Conduct engaging 90-minute workouts aligned with the seasonal plan

Teach stroke technique and swim strategy

Manage attendance and swimmer placement by lane

Promote a supportive team environment aligned with safe sport regulations and pool rules
Qualifications / Required
-
Age 21+ and high School diploma or GED
-
USMS Coach Certification (or willingness to obtain)

Experience coaching competitive swimming
-
Solid understanding of stroke technique
Preferred

Bachelor’s degree
-
USMS Masters Coach Level 1 & 2

Lifeguard certification
Compensation
-
$35/hour for coaching 2–3 practices/week
